Medical researchers often require specific equipment and tools for work. Securing adequate funding and resources can be a challenge. Based on her own experience, medical researcher Dr. Juliana Tepedino from Brazil submitted her study proposal to Fresenius Kabi’s Parenteral Nutrition Research Grant Latin America. On July 5th, in front of hundreds of attendees at the virtual FELANPE Congress Dr. Tepedino was announced as the sole winner of this grant.
Dr. Tepedino believes that clinical nutrition is an important component of patient recovery. With a desire to optimize understanding, efficacy and safety of clinical nutrition, she prepared an in-depth proposal to study the use of supplemental parenteral nutrition contributing to better outcomes in COVID-19 patients at intensive care units (ICUs).
As a leading provider of clinical nutrition, Fresenius Kabi launched the Parenteral Nutrition Research Grant Latin America in early 2018 to support research dedicated to improving the nutritional care of hospitalized adult patients in Latin America.
“It is a huge pleasure to be here and to win this grant,“ said Dr. Tepedino. “Providing the best nutritional therapy can contribute to short- and long-term outcomes, including rehabilitation. It is a huge opportunity to evaluate the role of supplemental parenteral nutrition in critically ill patients with COVID-19.”
Parenteral Nutrition Research Grant Latin America Committee Chair Dr. Isabel Correia said, “We based our final decision mostly on the quality of the project, as well as the researcher’s capability and plan to complete it. We found all these points in the winning research proposal. Congratulations to Dr. Juliana Tepedino and her team!”
Research study results will be presented in FELANPE Congress in 2023. Updates on the study and more information on the grant will be posted on the United for Clinical Nutrition Mexico Website.
