Empowering People

Training, Safety & Development

The quality of our products depends on the expertise and commitment of our more than 41,000 employees. They ensure that our product quality and the health and well-being of our patients always take center stage.

To maintain this focus, we aim to provide professional environments where everyone can perform at their best. For us, this includes embracing different backgrounds and perspectives, fostering personal and professional growth, and providing safe and hygienic working conditions. It is also important that our employees have a say. That is why we actively seek their feedback to shape our workplaces according to their needs.

In doing so, we aim to remain recognized as a Top Employer by the Top Employer Institute. This ambition is part of Fresenius Group’s #FutureFresenius transformation strategy.

For me, incorporating sustainability into HR means taking our responsibility for people seriously – throughout all stages of life. This includes fair conditions, health protection, development opportunities, an inclusive community, and a culture of appreciation. We build on long-term relationships – not just in contracts, but based upon mutual trust.

Employee Development and Well-being at Fresenius Kabi

We have many ambitions and priorities regarding employee development and well-being, but how exactly do these play out in practice?

We pursue three main priorities to ensure we stay on track.

Our workforce reflects the variety of our markets and locations, with more than 100 nationalities worldwide. Embracing a wide range of cultures and perspectives is a great asset to our teams and the company. We are committed to fostering international and interdisciplinary cooperation, supporting equal opportunities for all, and opposing discrimination of any kind.

We aim to create fair and welcoming work environments where management leads by example. We outline these values and commitments in the Fresenius Kabi Code of Conduct. It is binding for all employees and forms the foundation of our cooperation and corporate culture.

In today's highly competitive job market, attracting and retaining top talent is a challenge. At the same time, it is essential to answering the most pressing questions in our sector – now and in the future.

In line with our commitment to being a Top Employer, we strive to offer attractive working conditions that encourage people to stay with our company. We want our employees to feel confident in their roles, see long-term career opportunities, and know they are safe and supported at work. We address these priorities as detailed below:

Training

Our comprehensive employee training programs aim to enhance our employees’ job performance while fostering supportive and engaging work environments. They cover essential areas such as Codes of Conduct, integrity, environmental management, and occupational health and safety. As digitalization is becoming increasingly important, we help our teams gain the digital skills they need in their roles. We also offer talent management and personalized training for long-term career growth at Fresenius Kabi.

Development

Our talent development programs further support each employee’s individual growth. They range from our Career Starters Program for early career to the Top Executive Program in cooperation with Harvard Business School. Furthermore, the Fresenius After Work Academy offers flexible training on a wide range of topics, with no manager approval required. We also partner with external training providers to deliver tailored learning experiences that meet individual development goals.

Our employees averaged 26.2 training hours in 2024. By 2030, we will increase annual training hours per employee by 20%.

For every career stage: Development programs at Fresenius Kabi
  • Career Starters Program – internal program for early career stage
  • New Leaders Program – internal program for first leadership function
  • Advanced Leaders Program – internal program for experienced managers
  • Strategy Execution & Change Management Program – in cooperation with the University of St. Gallen
  • Top Executive Program – in cooperation with Harvard Business School

Employee health and well-being

Keeping our team safe and prepared is a top priority. We offer hands-on training at our production sites to ensure everyone knows how to handle equipment and chemicals safely and respond to emergencies.

Our global Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) team regularly checks that we are meeting our safety standards and everyone has the training they need. We quickly fix any gaps identified in these evaluations through our dedicated Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process. In addition, all our training materials are accessible on our global Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) and OHS intranet page. Through these methods, we ensure our team stays informed and ready. 44 of Fresenius Kabi's production units are also certified to ISO 45001.

Prioritizing Safety: A Culture of Care and Collaboration

We vigilantly monitor and report on workplace safety. One key metric is the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), which measures safety incidents resulting in at least one calendar day of missed work per million working hours. A lower LTIFR indicates a safer workplace, and that is at the core of our ambitions.

In 2024, Fresenius Kabi reduced its LTIFR by 20 % (from 2.8 to 2.2) compared to the previous year.

A workplace where safety is embraced as part of the culture rather than just a rule is envisioned at Fresenius Kabi. On World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024, we celebrated our commitment to safety and health in every aspect of our work.

In India, safety was brought to life by the team with a hands-on, high-energy event. Activities such as fire drills, first aid training, and engaging competitions, including Rangoli designs and Tug of War, were organized to reinforce the culture of safety while teamwork and awareness were fostered. Rangoli, which involves creating inspiring patterns on the ground using colored powders, was showcased as part of the safety celebrations.

Our employees’ feedback is crucial to shaping and enhancing Fresenius Kabi as a workplace for more than 41,000 people. Their input helps us identify strengths and areas of improvement at the team, division, segment, and Group levels.

For this purpose, we launched an annual Group-wide employee survey in 2022. The Employee Engagement Index (EEI) is a standardized questionnaire on topics like work-life balance, development, compliance, teamwork, feedback culture, and appreciation. Both HR teams and managers use these valuable EEI insights to attract, develop, and retain talent.

We want to be employer of choice and listen to our employees’ feedback.
For 2025, we are aiming for an EEI of > 4.33.

Employee Engagement Index (EEI) in 2024: 4.74
