Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time. While access to antibiotics is essential, how we manufacture them plays a critical role in safeguarding public health – today and for future generations.
That is why we are proud to share that our Santiago de Besteiros site in Portugal has received a big step towards our ongoing commitment to responsible antibiotic manufacturing: BSI Kitemark™ Certification for Minimized Risk of AMR in the production of Ceftriaxone, a vital antibiotic used to treat and prevent bacterial infections.
This certification confirms that our manufacturing processes meet the AMR Industry Alliance’s Antibiotic Manufacturing Standard. It also recognizes our efforts to:
- Minimize the release of antibiotic residues into wastewater
- Control emissions of antibiotic residues in waste streams during manufacturing
- Promote responsible pharmaceutical production
At Santiago de Besteiros, in the heart of Portugal, Fresenius Kabi, remains one of the last major manufacturers still producing antibiotics in Europe.
