Growing with #TeamFresenius: From Local Planning to Global Impact

How Torsten Bott grew from production planning into a global supply chain leadership role

Most patients never see what it takes to ensure medical devices and disposables are available for their treatment.

Production schedules, capacity planning, and coordination across manufacturing sites all happen behind the scenes. Yet these preparations can influence whether a patient receives treatment when they need it.

For nearly twenty years, Torsten Bott has helped build the planning and supply chain capabilities that keep medical products moving to support healthcare systems around the world.

Since joining in 2008, he has grown from Production Planning and Control in Bad Hersfeld, Germany into a global leadership role in Supply Chain Management & Network Excellence. Throughout that journey, one thing has remained constant: understanding that operational decisions have a direct connection to patient care.

"At its core, Fresenius offers more than just a career. It provides a mission-driven environment where the work directly contributes to improving patient outcomes worldwide."

Building something from the ground up

A defining chapter came in 2014 when Torsten moved to Błonie, Poland, to help establish a new Production Planning and Control organization while leading insourcing projects.

"One of the most defining challenges in my career was building and leading a supply chain organization during my two-year assignment in Poland."

The experience shaped his approach to leadership. Building a new organization requires trust, a shared vision, and people willing to work toward a common goal. By helping establish the new organization, he contributed to the planning capabilities needed to keep products moving reliably through the supply chain.

Those lessons stayed with him as his responsibilities continued to grow.

From local decisions to global impact

Over the years, Torsten's focus expanded from day-to-day planning to strategic decisions affecting Fresenius’ global manufacturing sites. He helped coordinate capacity planning, investment decisions, and the allocation of around 1,000 finished products across different production locations.

A decision made months in advance can contribute to the reliable availability of the medical devices and disposable products used in patient care. For Torsten, this is what makes his role truly worthwhile.

"My impact comes from building resilient, high-performing supply chains and empowering teams to deliver. This ensures patients receive essential products on time, customers can rely on us, and colleagues operate in a clear, performance-driven environment."

Why he stayed

Over the 18 years, Torsten has taken on new roles, worked across countries, and expanded his responsibilities far beyond where he started.

What kept him here was the opportunity to keep learning, take on new challenges, and contribute across a global manufacturing and supply network that supports the world’s healthcare.

Years after working with colleagues at a production site in China, he returned for a visit and found that many still remembered the relationships they had built together. For Torsten, it reinforced a simple lesson: lasting success is built through people.

Across Fresenius Kabi and the broader Fresenius Group, people contribute to patient care in different ways, but they share the same goal: helping improve patients' lives.

His guiding principle remains constant: "We cannot change the wind, but we can adjust the sails."

Today, Torsten is still motivated by the opportunity to solve complex challenges and work with talented colleagues. As Fresenius continues to evolve, he is helping shape #FutureFresenius through the resilient, efficient supply chains and support healthcare systems around the world.
