Innovation focused on patient needs

Developing products, therapies and technologies designed to improve patient care and support healthcare professionals.

Keeping patients at the forefront of our thinking, we continually work to innovate and develop essential medicines that are clinically effective and designed to support safe and efficient use. Our diversified portfolio spans IV solutions, anesthesia, anti-infectives, oncology, supportive injectables, critical care and emergency room medicines, and associated disposables and devices used in hospitals worldwide.

Through enhanced formulations, ready-to-use presentations and delivery systems designed for clinical workflows, we support healthcare professionals in providing care efficiently and safely. With more than 100 years of experience in IV solutions and 25 years in generics, we have innovative product formats, such as ready-to-administer infusion bags, vials and pre-filled syringes are designed to reduce preparation steps and support timely treatment, especially in an emergency setting. Longer-acting formulations and IV alternatives to oral medicines can contribute to improved administration practices and patient management.

We are innovators. Creating new ways to deliver more targeted and affordable biologic medicines to expand access for patients with significant unmet needs. Enabling broader access to biologics that have already been shown to transform outcomes, while maintaining the efficacy, quality and safety expected by payers, patients and practitioners.

We focus where we can make the biggest difference to patients’ lives, spanning a broad and diverse range of disease areas - from immunology and oncology to osteoporosis, hematology, neurology and respiratory. We are targeting over 60%1 of biologics that will lose their exclusivity over the next few years. To make this possible, we’ve created two dedicated in‑house R&D hubs, built for speed, precision and quality.

We have already brought 11 products to market in the past 3 years and have over 15 new assets under development across major disease areas including cancer and autoimmune diseases.1 We’re shortening development cycles by nearly 40%.1 Investing in data, analytics and digital platforms to reinforce speed and quality. And taking a proactive approach to regulation. This is driving us forward, enabling us to compete in a market where up to €180 billion of biologic sales are expected to lose exclusivity by 2030, expanding patient access and supporting more sustainable healthcare systems.1,2

Our innovation is centered on improving patient outcomes and quality of life. Drawing on scientific expertise and clinical experience, we develop medical nutrition products designed for use in real-world care environments.

Driving everything we do are patients. We pride ourselves on nourishing our patients, improving quality of life, restoring dignity, strength, and social connection through nutritional expertise deeply rooted in our pharmaceutical heritage. Experience has made us a trusted partner for all nutritional needs across parenteral, oral, or enteral nutrition; we are uniquely equipped to deliver innovations and tailored solutions across the full care continuum.

Our portfolio includes disease-specific formulations for ageing, oncology, chronic kidney disease, metabolic and autoimmune conditions, as well as parenteral, oral, and enteral nutrition solutions in formats designed for optimum tolerability, ease of use, and patient adherence.

We support patients throughout the care continuum - from hospital treatment to home care - by offering solutions that align with clinical requirements and patient needs. Medical nutrition can contribute to improved patient management, support recovery, and help reduce complications when appropriately integrated into treatment plans. These include disease-specific formulations across ageing, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and oncology with innovative therapeutic formats, and enhanced levels of palatability alongside innovative formulations for pediatric and vulnerable patient groups.

And when used appropriately, medical nutrition can also prevent illness, slow the effects of aging, and enable patients to live longer and healthier lives.

Infusion and transfusion have long been at the center of patient care. With this critical patient-centric role at the front of our minds, we’re harnessing our deep engineering and clinical expertise to develop meaningful innovations and advance new solutions – in everything from anesthesia monitoring to blood or plasma collection and cell and gene therapies such as CAR-T. We design our solutions with the goals of working intuitively, fitting workflows, improving patient safety, making treatment easy to deliver and enabling new therapies. So, healthcare professionals working under intense pressure can deliver high-quality care.

Our approach to innovation is about meaningful and measurable improvements that enhance clinical workflows and patient care. By focusing on innovations that deliver quality, longevity and are easily upgradeable, combined with our support, consultative relationships and decades of industry knowledge, we strive to provide fully future-proofed solutions. All of this is made possible by our global engineering capabilities and supplier base.

We have a proven ability to scale new innovations, such as our Ivenix Infusion System – only available in the U.S. – which uses proprietary pumping technology to deliver critical medications, while providing features that help protect patients from uncontrolled flow and dose errors.
