Waterproof Zip Toiletry Bag Wins Queen Silvia Nursing Award Germany 2022

2023年01月24日

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award is awarded by the Swedish Silviahemmet Foundation since 2013. In addition to an idea competition for nursing professionals, all registered and practicing nurses have also been eligible to participate since 2020. In mid-December, the German jury of the Queen Silvia Nursing Award met in Mainz-Kastel. They were invited by partner Arjo Germany, a renowned supplier of medical products, services and solutions for people with reduced mobility. Six remarkable young personalities presented their ideas for improving nursing and healthcare in the final of the competition. In the end, the handy as well as plausible idea of Sonja Meyers from Neustadt in Holstein was convincing: the "getAgo" toilet bag.

Sonja Meyers from Neustadt in Holstein, who works at the Katharina-von-Bora-Betagtenhaus from the Vorwerker Diakonie in Lübeck, wins the prize. Her idea, "getAgo," is a waterproof zip toiletry bag that includes a dry and wet compartment as well as a packing list and affiliation information. In an emergency, the care assistant can store personal aids, objects and documents of the person concerned in the "getAgo". In this way, important items such as glasses, dentures, allergy passports or hearing aids can accompany the affected person to the hospital.

The plan is for Sonja Meyers to meet Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden in person at the international Queen Silvia Nursing Award ceremony in spring 2023. At the festive ceremony in Stockholm Castle, the winners of the international competitions will be presented and honored. Delegations from the participating countries and institutions will also be present.

Fresenius Kabi Germany is proud partner of this prize. This year, Dagmar Scherrer, Senior Vice President Home Care Fresenius Kabi Germany, was part of the jury as well.

About the Queen Silvia Nursing Award (QSNA)

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award was founded in 2013 as a birthday gift for Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden in honor of her many years of advocacy and engagement for nurses as well as the quality of care for older people and people living with a dementia diagnosis.

Her Majesty Queen Silvia has a long-standing association with, and support of, dementia care and caregiving since the 1990s when her late mother was diagnosed with dementia. Her Majesty has lent her name and support to a number of Swedish initiatives including her dementia foundation Stiftelsen Silviahemmet which provides dementia care training and certification programs; the Dementia Forum X global summits on dementia and the Queen Silvia Nursing Award.  In recognition of Her Majesty’s dedication to the elderly and dementia care sphere, The Queen was named an Honorary Ambassador of Alzheimer’s Disease International in December 2018.
