Fresenius Kabi South Africa Hosts a Blood Drive for World Blood Donor Day

30 June 2023

The South African National Blood Services (SANBS) aims to collect 3000 units of blood daily to ensure a safe and sufficient supply in the health care system. Every unit of blood can save a minimum of three lives as blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma and platelets. The SANBS needs to maintain a blood stock level of 5 days for each blood group.

On Friday, 09 June 2023, Fresenius Kabi South Africa hosted a blood drive at their head office in Midrand to help the SANBS to achieve this objective.

SANBS set up their tent outside front doors of Fresenius Kabi’s offices, making it convenient for staff to donate. Everyone working in the business park was also encouraged to join in.

To create an atmosphere of fun, the MedTech team came together to decorate the office park with red, heart-shaped balloons. They went from office to office, dressed as vampires, recruiting donors and reassuring first-time donators.

The day was a great success and was enjoyed by everyone involved. Going forward it is hoped that the number of units of blood collected will keep increasing.

For more information on blood donation please visit the SANBS website and make sure you get involved in blood donation wherever you can.
