Features

Imipenem/Cilastatin is an intravenous broad spectrum carbapenem, containing equal quantities of the antibiotic acting drug imipenem and the dehydropeptidase inhibitor cilastain.

Packaging/Dosage

30 ml USP type 1 tubular glass vial sealed with gray bromo butyl rubber plug and aluminium flip off seal. Vial is packed individually in outer carton along with its pack insert.

 

The usual dose of Imipenem/Cilastatin for adults and adolescents is 500 mg every 6 hours or 1,000 mg every 6 or 8 hours. If you have kidney problems or weigh less than 70 kg, your doctor may lower your dose.

Indications

KABICILAS is indicated for the treatment of

  • Serious lower respiratory tract infections,
  • Urinary tract infections,
  • Intra-abdominal infections,
  • Bone and joint infections,
  • Endocarditis,
  • Bacterial sepsis.

Because of its broad spectrum bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, Imipenem and Cilastatin combination is useful for the treatment of mixed infections and as presumptive therapy prior to identification of causative organisms.

Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of

anti-bacterial agents.
