Global Compounding Trainee Program

Global Compounding Trainee Program

Fresenius Kabi is a leader in the global infusion therapy market building on its long-term expertise in development and manufacturing of selected active pharmaceutical ingredients as well as small and large volume parenteral medication. We develop products and concepts for the advanced treatment of critically and chronically ill patients in hospital or home care and have established several manufacturing centers worldwide performing a process of mixing pharmaceutical products under aseptic conditions to fit the unique needs of a specific patient, i.e. compounding.

In compounding quality is an integral part of our daily operations, therefore all our compounding centers are integrated in Fresenius Kabi’s Quality Management System and qualified according to international GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. This includes the continuous improvement of processes and skills of our employees.

To advance the continuous improvement process and international exchange between the compounding centers, Fresenius Kabi initiated a Global Compounding Trainee Program in which selected candidates are exposed to Fresenius Kabi compounding sites throughout the world. The Global Compounding Trainee Program allows for gaining international experience and for developing a core competency in managing compounding projects. In addition, it enables to share the know-how gathered during the Trainee Program by supporting the establishment and management of new Fresenius Kabi compounding centers and actively contributes to the global networking within the Fresenius Kabi compounding community.

"I am a graduated pharmacist and developed a special interest in sterile preparation and pharmaceutical compounding. In one of Fresenius Kabi’s compounding centers, I gained solid working experience in preparing patient-specific pharmaceutical preparations in clinical nutrition and/or I.V. drug therapies.

I applied for the Global Compounding Trainee Program as I was eager to expand my personal know-how both in pharmaceutical compounding and in management of compounding centers. In addition, the Trainee Program helped me to adapt to different working cultures while spending one year of my career working abroad. Of course, excellent language skills in English are mandatory but further language capabilities enhance the options for the hospitalization in different countries.

Besides practical work in compounding centers in different geographic regions and countries of different development status, there are several topics on our program to gain a holistic interlinked view on the business: strategic management, compounding and strategic projects, business plans, strategic marketing, quality assurance, corporate structures and guidelines, improvement of project management and project controlling skills, compounding-specific marketing concepts as well as the drug stability databases, different GMP requirements for patient-specific preparations, methods and tools applied in the respective centers as well as reimbursement policies and the specific working environment in these centers.

We, the trainees, are expected to present a detailed report on all activities and projects undertaken at the end of each country/region compounding centre exposure. I am proud having this opportunity in working as a compounding expert and being part of a fast-growing, truly global company."
