Environmental Targets

Fresenius Kabi´s overall environmental targets
As a healthcare company, Fresenius Kabi is committed to protect nature as the basis of life and to use its resources responsibly. It is our mission to constantly improve our performance in the areas of environmental protection, occupational health and safety, product responsibility and logistics, and to comply with legal requirements.
Fresenius Kabi’s environmental targets comprise the following:
- Minimization of waste
- Minimization of pollution by efficiently using energy and natural resources
- Optimal utilization of resources
- Compliance with applicable legal requirements, such as emission limit values
- Substitution of hazardous substances wherever possible
Please find hereafter some examples of Fresenius Kabi’s plants that successfully apply the ISO 14001 environmental management system.
Bad Homburg, Germany
The enteral nutrition production site has been actively engaging in environmental issues, testament to this is – beside the ISO14001 –certificate - the plant’s the ÖKOPROFIT awards. For the 5th year running, the production facility was recognized as an especially environmentally friendly manufacturing plant by the local ÖKOPROFIT program.
The plant has been taking part in the project since 2004. ÖKOPROFIT combines environmental benefits with the company’s economic objectives, thus operating economically and still make savings in resources. Furthermore, our enteral nutrition production site joined the ÖKOPROFIT club. Regular meetings provide the basis for an exchange of experience and knowledge on environmental law and new organizational and technical developments. Moreover, the production facility has been awarded the ÖKOPROFIT Award several times. Being presented with this award requires various environmental criteria have to be fulfilled and checked by an independent commission. The award demonstrates that the facility has raised its eco-efficiency during the past years.
One of the production site’s current targets is the reduction of energy, gas and water per produced unit and litre, respectively by a mid-single digit percentage range in comparison to the past year. This would be a reduction of energy, gas and water by approx. 45 % over the last six years.

Graz, Austria
The history of active environmental development in Graz began as early as the middle of the 90s. The plant was ISO 14001 certified from 1998 to 2001. From 1995 to 2006 Fresenius Kabi was awarded the “Ökoprofit” for its cooperation in the program with the city of Graz, a commitment to superior performance in the field of environment.
In 2007 Graz decided to, once again, opt for ISO 14001 certification and since 2008, it has been a top priority.
The optimizations in the use of resources and waste management are the main focus at Graz. This is why all sorts of waste are thoroughly controlled and separated into material types for recycling. The Graz site has an impressive overall recycling average of 70 %.
The optimization of energy consumption is also a focus for any and all technical upgrades at the production site. The aim is to apply cutting edge technologies and reduce energy consumption in order to live up to the commitment of caring for natural resources.
For 2011 one of the concrete targets is to reduce the energy consumption through the optimization of cooling in the autoclave process. Also, the emergency exit lighting will be upgraded to LED in the years to come.

Ranjangaon, India
Treating our environment with care is a duty that the employees of Fresenius Kabi’s Ranjangaon site in India take seriously and strive for every day. Fresenius Kabi’s plant in Ranjangaon is a further facility that is part of the ISO 14001 matrix certification, thus reflecting the site’s commitment to steady improving processes and performance towards meeting several environmental objectives.
The Indian site is committed to the responsible use of natural resources, to the protection of the environment and to the improvement of occupational health. An example of its engagement is the site’s objective to bring down plant lighting electricity consumption 10 % with reference to 2010 consumption.

Baddi, India
Fresenius Kabi’s Baddi site strives to protect the nature as the basis of life and to utilize its resources responsibly. We consistently aspire to improve our performance in environmental protection, occupational health and technical safety in the area of production and logistics. To comply with legal requirements is a matter of course.
Since 2010 Fresenius Kabi’s Baddi site is ISO 14001 certified and part of the matrix. By fulfilling the stipulations of this standard the organization is committed to define an EHS Policy, to control its processes related to environmental aspects to continuously improve the system and processes. The Indian site is committed to the responsible use of natural resources, to the protection of the environment, and to comprise high standard of occupational health and safety.
One of the goals adopted at the Baddi site is to reduce water consumption for horticulture by 20 % in the next to years as compared to current consumption in the year 2011. Another environmental goal is to reduce energy consumption in general lighting by 10 % in the year 2012.
